The PERPETUAL license can be used indefinitely and has a once-off cost paid upfront. This type of license usually is accompanied by a software maintenance agreement paid for annually. An example of a perpetual license for Freelancers is the Trados Studio 2022 Freelance license, which is a desktop-installed license, with cloud capabilities.
Perpetual licenses will over time become out-dated as this license type must keep up with its underlying hardware and operating system that it requires to function optimally. This will necessitate additional future costs to upgrade the license to a newer version to function optimally. This license type provides an upgrade path that eventually will come to an end, whereafter engineering and technical support will come to a close.
The SUBSCRIPTION license provides for the utilisation of the software over a limited time period, which allows payment per user.
